Los Gatos Children's Holiday Parade
Approximately 30 LGBRC members and their families attended
the 50th annual Los Gatos Children's Holiday Parade
on the first Saturday in December. It is the oldest
children’s
parade in the nation. Although parade entrants are “required” to
line up at 9:30 AM for the 11:00 parade start time,
most of us gathered at 10:30, banner and coffees
in hand. Due to our relatively low, i.e., good, start
number (e.g., 48) we hit the North Santa Cruz Avenue
parade route by 11:30. We walked and rode our bikes
past the large and hardy crowd informing the town
about their great cycling team and our next race.
The approximate 25 word maximum LGBRC tag line “Los
Gatos’ biggest annual sports event, the world famous
Cat’s Hill Classic bicycle race, sponsored
by SugarCRM. This bicycle
race is part of the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic
Race Series” was read by announcers dispersed along
the route. After a highly successful march down North
Santa Cruz Avenue and Main Street we subsequent met
at Tomato Thyme in Los Gatos for our annual carbo-loading
pizza party.
Silicon Valley Marathon
LGBRC members volunteer to escort the leaders of
the Silicon Valley Marathon from the start of the
race in downtown San Jose along the route (typically
the Los Gatos Creek Trail) and back to the start.
The event is held mid-October.
Los Gatos Carriage
Rides
Los Gatos Carriage Rides
As part of our membership in the Los Gatos Chamber
of Commerce, we volunteer annually to work the
annual Town of Los Gatos Carriage Rides on a weekend
evening in December between 5:00 and 10:30 PM.
(This year's date will be announced.) This event
is the largest fundraiser for the LGCOC. While
knowledgeable LGCOC people administered the finances
of the rides, the LGBRC escorted riders to and
from the carriages.
