Dan Whiley joined LGBR in 2014 after participating in the Saturday rides. As a category 5, his racing emphais is Road, Track and Crit.

How did Dan get interested in cycling? "In London, I used to work for Sky, the TV company who are lead sponsors of the pro cycling team of the same name.  As a result, there was a lot of support for cycling within the company, with a dedicated club for employees ("Sky Velo"), frequent trips / camps, and strong encouragement for cycle commuting."

Dan continues, "I started commuting to work and then got suckered into a closed-roads Gran Fondo ("Sportive" in proper English). Luckily, we had a training plan written for us by Rod Ellingworth (Cavendish's coach) so, despite torrential rain on the day, it went well and the bug was well and truly caught."

When asked what he considers his greatest cycling achievement, he responded, "2012/13 was a year of achievements:

- For a brief and glorious moment, I held the Strava KOM for the London Olympic Time Trial route (only to be beaten by Wiggins by a mere 35 minutes the next day...)

- In 2013 a group of 100 Sky Velo cyclists rode London to Paris, finishing in Paris in time to watch Chris Froome win the TdF on the Champs Elysee.

- Two weeks later, I took part in the inaugural "Ride London" - a closed roads gran fondo following the Olympic road race route, along with 25,000 other cyclists."

"When I'm not riding a bike, I'm drumming with Bateria Samba Cruz, a Brazilian Samba drumming group based in ... Santa Cruz."

He adds, "Oh, and in case you haven't guessed, I'm British."
