Gene Ragan
Gene is a Category 3 racer who joined
LGBRC in 2005 as a Cat. 4. He excels
in road racing.
When asked how he became interested
in racing, he replies, "I began racing
as a junior in high school. All my brothers
and sisters were into the standard high school
sports and I just had to be different. It
was the golden age of cycling in America. My
early heroes were Eric Heiden, Davis Phinney,
Andy Hampsten, Ron Kiefel, Alex Stieda, Bob
Roll and the rest of the 7-11 team."
His greatest cycling achievement? "I
still hope to have some achievements
left. I am happy to be back racing
after an eight year layoff that included
a couple of surgeries. It is my
goal to be competive again at the masters
level and get back to my previous category."
"Cycling is my passion right now, but I also love
to program computers (my day job), work on cars, airplanes
and motorcycles and collect vintage arcade games."
He adds, "The people at LGBRC have inspired me
to get back into racing shape and compete at a high
level. There are five of us now where I work,
so lunch rides are min-team rides. All hammer,
all the time."
