Aaron Hanna joined LGBRC in 2004.
He is a Category 3 road racer.
When asked what attracted him to cycling, he replies,
"My brother and I mountain biked together growing
up, and although I was glued to the TV every July
for the Tour "day" France,
I did not own a road bike until 2003. A good
friend on the club, Greg Juneau, suggested that
I join 6 months later, and there was a lot of
learning to do. But soon I was hooked, and finished
in the top third of my first race at McClane.
Having since learned that survival is the bare
minimum, my first 2 years of racing have taught
me a lot about where and when to position myself
during the race. And with modest but steady goal-setting,
I hope to continue improving my fitness, results,
and contribution to the team."
"Making it
onto the podium at my first Cat's Hill was
thrilling. I was inexperienced enough to drop my
chain on the hill, but it's the inexperience that
makes the comeback so memorable. Money or merchandise
prizes from subsequent races have been spent or used
up, but I will always keep my podium medal as a reminder
of racing for the pure joy of it."
"My background
is mechanical engineering, courtesy of 6
years on the Blue and Gold side of the bay. I work
on the servo-mechanical systems of computer hard
drives, having spent 7 years with Western Digital.
It's a rewarding challenge delivering 1-2 orders
of storage growth/decade - time consuming, but rewarding."
"My 2 1/2 years with
the club have been great, both from the
teammates and from the leadership. The quality and
professionalism of Cat's Hill is very motivating
to want to help make it the best event on the calendar.
Teamwork is improving this year in the races, and
we have a bright future to be one of the teams to
beat every week."
