Mike Ahern
Mike is a Cat 5 racer who joined LGBRC
in 2008 as an active participant.
Mike writes, "I
consider myself lucky to have found
such a great and supportive club."
"Since I joined the club, I have
become obsessed with bike riding and
racing. I can't wait to get on
the bike, I think about the club rides
and the races all the time. I love
to plot my times and finishes and look
for trends showing improvement."
"My greatest achievements seem to
change every few weeks as I find another
milestone to pass. I joined the
club as a 41 year old novice road biker
and after 2 years, am just figuring out
how to train right and eat right and
I can't wait for the next hill climb
or road race to test out a new tactic.
My best days are often repeats of rides
where I had a bad day."
"My heart is in road races. I
love to try to draft and dose out
my effort in a way that I will
feel fresh at the end. In many
of my races I reach the finish
line wishing there were more miles
to go so I could pass more people. I
feel my style is sort of 'Tortoise
and the Hare' where I am the tortoise. In
that story the tortoise won, and
I know with dedication this tortoise
will be on the podium too."
"When
I'm not riding bikes I make Solar
Panels for Solyndra, and I drive
my home-built electric car."
